Reception |
Reception Baseline Assessment A one-to-one assessment of a child's language, literacy, communication, and math skills. It is taken within the first six weeks of entering reception class. The results are used to assess how well schools are helping their students. |

Phonics Screening Assessment A short test for Year 1 students that assesses their ability to break down words into sounds and read them correctly. |

Multiplication Check The multiplication tables check (MTC) is statutory for all year 4 pupils. The purpose of the MTC is to determine whether pupils can recall their times tables fluently, which is essential for future success in mathematics. |

Standardised Assessment Tests (SATs) A national assessment that takes place at the end of Key Stage 2 (Year 6). SATs assess a child's educational progress. Schools aggregate their SATs scores, which are published and sometimes appear in the national press. SATs results for children in Key Stage 2 are also sent to their secondary school. |
