Pupil Premium

In 2011-12 the Government launched its Pupil Premium funding. This money is sent to schools based on the numbers of pupils in the school who are eligible for Free School Meals (FSM). From 2012-13, it has been expanded to include all children who have been eligible for FSM within the last 6 years.

In addition children whose parents work in the forces or children who are Looked After Children also receive a grant. This money is allocated to initiatives to ensure pupils reach their full potential, both academically and socially.  Mundella’s Pupil Premium funding allocation for 2022-23 was £32,660.

Principles of Pupil Premium Funding

  • We ensure that teaching and learning opportunities meet the needs of all of the pupils.
  • We ensure that appropriate provision is made for pupils who belong to vulnerable groups, this includes ensuring that the needs of children who receive the pupil premium funding are adequately assessed and addressed.
  • In making provision for pupils, we recognise that not all pupils who receive free school meals will be disadvantaged.
  • We also recognise that not all pupils who are disadvantaged are registered or qualify for free school meals. We reserve the right to allocate the Pupil Premium funding to support any pupil or groups of pupils the school has legitimately identified as being disadvantaged. Each intervention will be inclusive of children receiving the pupil premium grant.
  • Pupil premium funding will be allocated following a needs analysis which will identify priority classes, groups or individuals. Limited funding and resources means that not all children receiving free school meals will be in receipt of pupil premium interventions at one time.

Provision for 2023-24

The range of provision will include:

  • Small group work and individual 1:1 tuition with an experienced teacher focused on overcoming gaps in learning.
  • Subsidised & Funded Educational Visits to give children 'experiences' to write about.
  • A higher proportion of teaching assistants at the early stages of schooling to focus specifically on those children receiving the grant.
  • Funding for children to attend clubs outside of school such as football, athletics and workshops.
  • An experienced SENCO will ensure focused intervention for all identified children.
  • Specific learning resources such as laptops.
  • A higher proportion of support staff to support vulnerable children through our nurture provision.
  • Ensuring basic needs are met of pupils eg clothing and bedding.
